ITTO Executive Director calls for positive messaging on timber

ITTO Executive Director Sheam Satkuru has suggested that international organizations, governments and other stakeholders jointly promote the message that “harvesting timber sustainably is not deforestation” to overcome public misconceptions about the role of the timber trade in tropical deforestation.

From the forest to the home – Greening the timber supply chain – Connect through the GGSC

For millions of years forests have cloaked mother earth as they do today, they are home to many creatures and provide abundant resources. When harvested wisely and with thoughtfulness they give us all the timber we need and then replenish themselves for the next generations over and over again.

Initiative on Co-building a Global Green Supply Chain of Forest Products & Initiative Enterprise

June 21-22, 2018, Center for International Forest Products Trade, State Forestry Administration of China and International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) jointly held in Beijing, "the global forest products international seminars and green supply chain leader dialogue", 12 leading forest enterprise launched "Initiative on Co-building a Global Green Supply Chain of Forest Products ".The initiative is as follows:

Forests and wood are good for the economy, people and protecting nature

Forests, cover over 30 percent of the earth’s l land, they are crucial ecosystems providing l environmental, social, cultural and economic services on which humanity depends.

ITTO support sustainable forestry industry through LSSC Programme

The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) is an intergovernmental organization promoting the sustainable management and conservation of tropical forests and the expansion and diversification of international trade in tropical timber from sustainably managed and legally harvested forests.

wood products helps to mitigate climate change

Wood is good for the climate.

Using wood helps the environment – the ‘green advantage’ of wood.

Using wood helps the environment – the ‘green advantage’ of wood. While forests grow using the energy from the sun they are efficiently removing carbon dioxide from the environment and producing oxygen - a bonus unique to wood. By-products from harvesting and processing wood are widely used as biofuel, this reduces the fossil fuel burden in production process. As forests are harvested and replanted the benefits they provide to the earth continue to expand.

Why is wood a good building material?

Using wood products in construction really does have a positive impact on climate change.Wood Enhances Energy Efficiency,Wood is Renewable,Wood is Environmental Friendly……

Experts' Views: Ms. Sheam Satkuru, Executive Director of ITTO

In the past 25-30 years, the international community has attached great importance to sustainable development. The establishment of a legal and sustainable green supply chain requires joint efforts of all relevant bodies, such as government, private sector, international organizations, civil society, to take actions with stepwise approach.

Experts' Views: Dr. Gerhard Dieterle,Former Executive Director of ITTO

Global Green Supply Chain Network helps the forestry industry to better organize itself, enabling each stakeholder to obtain better information.

Experts' Views: Ms. Eva Mueller,Director General of Forest Agency, BMEL

Countries all over the world must continue to invest resources to combat illegal logging and protect wood resources. Looking forward to building a global green supply chain network, jointly promote the procurement of legal wood worldwide, and promote the sustainable development of forest resources.

Experts' Views: Dr. Lee White, Minister for Forestry, Gabon

The world is changing. The effective use of commercial forests can better protect the earth and the ecology, but it requires self-discipline and self-governance of the entire timber industry. All parties shall take responsibility together to improve the industry ecology, enhance the common interests of producers and consumers, and make greater contributions to improving livelihood, addressing climate change, protecting the ecological environment and biodiversity.

Entrepreneurs Views: Mr. Chen Xiaolong, Chairman Power Dekor Group Ltd.

We propose and call on the international community to jointly maintain and disseminate the positive image of forest products, and jointly build a global green supply chain for forest products; we also call on consumers to use timber and wood products from sustainable forests to jointly contribute to climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation.

Experts' Views: Mr. Georges Moucharou,President of the Central African Forest Commission

We hope that a sustainable global green supply chain for forest products can be established, involving private companies, to play a greater role in the restoration of forest resources, efficient use of wood, and formulation of laws and regulations.

Entrepreneurs Views:Mr. Du Jun, General Manager, China Real Estate Joint Purchasing Platform (Caizhu)

The power of collaboration is enormous. The joint action of the wood industry at home and abroad to promote green and sustainable development is bound to generate a powerful force and change the development ecology of the entire industry.
