In order to better connect related governmental departments, international organizations, industrial associations and timber enterprises in the world, jointly boost legal and sustainable utilization of timber and promote sustainable development of global forest and forest products worldwide, Marco Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) plan to hold the "Global Timber Index Platform GTI Report Press Conference and International Workshop on Global Timber Market Trend" in The Venetian Macao from December 8 to 9, which is organized by the Secretariat of the Global Green Supply Chains Initiative (the GGSC Secretariat) .
Seven countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America jointly witness the world debut of GTI index
On the "Global Timber Index Platform GTI Report Press Conference and International Workshop on Global Timber Market Trend", IPIM and ITTO will formally issue Global Timber Index (GTI), the first prosperity index of the timber industry in the world. Forestry departments, industry associations and timber enterprises in seven countries will jointly witness the debut occasion, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Gabon, The Republic of Congo, Brazil, Mexico and China.
GTI is obtained through monthly investigation and statistics of the leading timber enterprises in global timber producing countries and timber consuming countries. It may timely reflect fluctuations of the global timber, and act as the "barometer" and "thermometer" of the operation trend of the global timber industry. In the first year, the investigation scope of the index covers seven countries, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Gabon, The Republic of Congo, Brazil, Mexico and China. The scope of sample countries will be continuously expanded; the timber enterprises from more regions will be invited to join it. At the beginning of every month, five languages will be adopted to issue the GTI report, namely Chinese, English, Portuguese, French and Spanish. Subsequently, the scope of sample countries will be expanded.
Domestic and foreign governments, industries, universities and research institutions will jointly discuss about the industrial development trend
During this activity, "the International Workshop on Global Timber Market Trend" will be held. Representatives of domestic and foreign timber enterprises, scholars and experts will jointly discuss about the development trend of the global timber market. They will mainly discuss about the status quo of global timber resource supply, timber and timber industry development under the strategy of "peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality", status quo and development trend of the global broad leaf timber market, opportunities and challenges facing the global timber industry, GTI index, and the platform-empowered new mechanism of sustainable development of global timber industry. They will also jointly discuss about the new development paths of the timber industry in the post-epidemic era.
Global information communication platform of the global timber industry is formally launched
"Global Timber Index" Platform, GTI Report Press Conference and International Workshop on Global Timber Market Trend" symbolizes that the global information communication platform connected by GTI index is formally put into operation. Subsequently, the GGSC Secretariat will conduct a series of activities, such as technical training, business docking and standard formulation, and connect organizations, such as governmental departments of various countries, international organizations, timber industry associations, and global advantageous timber industry enterprises. Through normal communication and coordination mechanism, they will form the joint force, boost legal and sustainable utilization of timbers, construct a stable and orderly timber tenacity supply chain, so as to promote the sustainable and sound development of forests and forest products, and positively help with global economic recovery and cope with climate changes.
