Meeting Held between GGSC, and Congo Basin Forest Project Research Team at Finland's University of Helsinki

On 11 January 2024, representatives of the Secretariat of Global Green Supply Chains Initiative (GGSC) had a meeting with the research team of Congo Basin Forest Project at the University of Helsinki (Finland), funded by the Volkswagen Foundation in Germany.

Members of the research team of the Congo Basin Forest Project at the University of Helsinki presented the overall situation of the project and the findings of the project team's visit to forest concession companies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Dr. Luo Xinjian, Secretary-General of GGSC, introduced the main work of GGSC, such as some collaborative projects between International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), including Global Timber Index (GTI) platform, Blockchain-based Timber Tracking System(BTTS)and Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum (GLSTF). Dr. Luo also introduced the ongoing Green Finance for Green Supply Chains (GF4GS) Action and its significance to the building of Africa-China legal and sustainable timber supply chains.

The two sides also exchanged views on topics such as improving the legal and sustainable forest management in the Congo Basin, protecting local forests, and enhancing the value and significance of the timber industry for the livelihoods of local communities.
