Mexico launches 2025–2030 Environmental Restoration Plan

SEMARNAT has launched the National Environmental Restoration Program 2025–2030 (PNRA), a strategic plan to coordinate and guide the recovery of degraded ecosystems across the country over the next five years.

The program was formally presented during the Summit for Ecosystem Restoration of Mexico, held on June 25–26 and co-organized by the Mexican Alliance for Ecosystem Restoration (AMERE), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and SEMARNAT.

Key targets of the PNRA include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030 and restoring four priority watersheds, Tula, Lerma-Santiago, Atoyac, and Río Sonora, along with the Endhó and El Zapotillo reservoirs. In terms of green spaces, the program aims to support Mexico’s zero net deforestation goal by restoring 1,500ha of urban parks and forests, as well as 100,000ha of forest ecosystems by 2030.
