On October 9 at the WTO Trade and Environment Week held in Geneva, Switzerland, Professor Jintao Xu from Peking University, an internationally renowned scholar in the field of environmental economics, delivered a keynote speech titled "China's Timber Trade and Sustainable Global Forest Management."

In his speech, Professor Jintao Xu introduced activities related to China. In terms of efforts by the private sector, he highlighted one of the outcomes of the Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum (GLSTF) which is co-hosted by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute of the Macao SAR (IPIM) - the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDoI) for Sustainable Forest Management and Responsible Timber Industry Operation.
The Joint Declaration of Intent stated, “The signatories are ready to join forces with the international community in their attempts to build an Africa-China-Europe legal and sustainable timber supply chain, with the support of government departments, financial institutions, the international donor community and others who can support corporate social and environmental responsibility.”
