In March 2026, the GTI-Producers registered 46.0% and stayed below the critical value (50%) for several consecutive months, indicating a continued downturn for the timber harvesting and primary processing industries in the pilot producing countries.
In Asia, the GTI indexes for Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia came in at 55.9%, 42.9%, and 31.8%, respectively. On the supply side, Thailand saw harvesting volume rise after six months, and its production volume grew for the third consecutive month. Indonesia experienced an increase in harvesting volume, though production continued to show a downward trend. And Malaysia extended its declining trend in both harvesting and production. On the demand side, Thailand's new orders continued to grow; although Indonesia's new orders declined slightly this month, the overall market condition had shown improvement over the past six months; for Malaysia, its market condition remained sluggish.
In Africa, the Republic of the Congo (ROC), Ghana, and Gabon posted GTI indexes of 50.3%, 46.5%, and 39.5%, respectively. On the supply side, the Republic of the Congo saw harvesting and production levels remain flat. Ghana and Gabon both recorded declines in harvesting and production compared to the previous month, with the timber industry supply side in the two countries facing common challenges such as rainfall, poor road conditions, and rising fuel costs. On the demand side, the volume of orders remained stable in the Republic of the Congo but decreased in both Ghana and Gabon.
In Latin America, Ecuador, Brazil, and Mexico registered GTI indexes of 50.8%, 47.7%, and 46.4%, respectively. On the supply side, Ecuador posted a significant month-on-month increase in harvesting volume, and production saw an end to previous declines. However, heavy rainfall—expected to continue into next month—may affect its supply-side activities. Brazil’s harvesting and production levels were stable compared to the previous month, while Mexico saw declines in both. On the demand side, new orders decreased across all three countries, though export orders picked up in both Brazil and Mexico.
